BrowseAloud

What is Browsealoud?

Browsealoud is a new feature on our website which allows you to hear our web pages being read to you. This includes files such as pdf documents and forms. The service is designed to improve access to our website, for example, for people with dyslexia or mild visual impairments.

It will also enable you to hear other websites which are Browsealoud-enabled.

Download Browsealoud

To access this service download the free plug-in. This will take you to the Browsealoud website where you will find full instructions.

How does it work?

Once you have downloaded and installed the plug-in, the Browsealoud icon will appear in your system tray, which is usually found in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.

We recommend that you switch to the 'Text Only' version for best results.

Now, when you move your cursor over the text, you will hear that section being spoken aloud. You can choose to listen to selected sections of text or the entire page, depending where your cursor is pointed.

There are also options to see the words that are being spoken in large font at the top of the screen and to change voice styles and colours.

To customise your Browsealoud settings, right click on the icon once it is installed on your computer and choose 'Open Browsealoud settings' from the menu.

For more information, please see the Browsealoud Video tour or for help and assistance please go to Browsealoud's Frequently Asked Questions.
