Industrial action - CS051902

A student was in the final year of an undergraduate degree course at the time of the industrial action. They complained to the provider that they had paid for lectures and seminars which were not provided, that their performance in one module had been affected, and that the industrial action had a detrimental impact on their mental health. They requested a partial refund of tuition fees.

A student was in the first year of a three-year English degree at the time of the industrial action. The student complained to the University that they lost three of 24 weeks teaching in three modules. They also said that the University had not given clear information about the industrial action and the steps it had taken to reduce its impact.

A student was on a one-year foundation course at the time of the industrial action. The student complained to the University that it hadn’t delivered lectures, seminars and academic development sessions which they had paid for, and that some of the missed teaching included core content and study advice.

A student was on a one-year master’s course at the time of the industrial action. The student complained to the University that it had not delivered teaching sessions which they had paid for, and that some of the missed teaching included core content and subjects of key interest. The student also complained that adjustments to assessments had not been fair and that the mitigating action taken by the University was not adequate.

The student was in the second and final year of their part-time master’s programme at the time of the industrial action. They complained to the University about the impact of the industrial action on their studies. The student asked for a tuition fee refund and compensation for distress and inconvenience.

A student was on a part-time BA programme at the time of the industrial action. They complained to the University about the impact of the industrial action on their studies and asked for a refund of tuition fees.

An international student was on a one-year master’s programme at the time of the industrial action. They complained to the University about teaching hours that had been missed during the action.

A student was in the first year of a four-year undergraduate programme at the time of the industrial action. They complained to the University that the steps it had taken to minimise the impact of the action did not take account of their needs as a student with dyslexia. The student said that, as a result, they were at a particular disadvantage and had failed one module exam. The student asked for an uncapped resit of the exam.

Industrial action - CS051913

A student was in the final year of a BSc programme at the time of the industrial action. In March 2018 they raised concerns about the impact of the action on their assessments and the availability of their tutors, and on their mental health. After successfully graduating, the student instructed solicitors. In a Letter before Action the solicitors said the student was dissatisfied with the University’s response to their concerns and that the University had breached its contract with the student.
