CASE SUMMARIES

Placement - CS032405

A nursing student was studying on a programme delivered in partnership between provider A and provider B. Provider B was responsible for organising placement opportunities and provider A was responsible for considering any complaints.

Placement - CS032404

A teaching student’s placement school raised concerns about their professional suitability and the student was immediately withdrawn from the placement. The provider then began Fitness to Practise (FtP) proceedings against the student and their studies were terminated the following term.

A nursing student complained to their provider about reasonable adjustments for their disability and delays to their graduation and subsequent registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The provider did not uphold the student’s complaint.

An international student applied for a four-year programme advertised on the provider’s website. The advertised programme included a placement year.

A postgraduate student enrolled on a two-year programme. The second year of the programme was an optional industrial placement. Toward the end of their first year the student successfully secured a placement and provided details to the programme’s placement team.

A student with an autistic spectrum condition and a physical disability was studying a course in the performing arts at one provider (provider A) leading to the award of another provider (provider B).

A student affected by generalised anxiety disorder was part of a cohort affected by industrial action.

International student - CS052407

An international student studying in the UK on a Student Visa received a letter from the provider telling them that their studies had been terminated because their attendance was 0%.

An international student was called to an academic misconduct meeting because their answers to a closed book exam had included a significant proportion of text copied from published sources and lecture notes.

After two assessment opportunities, an international student was successful in some modules but unsuccessful in others.

We publish summaries of some of the complaints that we review. We always leave out of the summary any information that might identify the student who made the complaint. In some cases we decide that it is in the public interest to publish a summary of a complaint that includes the name of the provider.
