Disciplinary matters (non-academic) - CS102305

A student made an arrangement with a third party for the payment of their tuition fees. The student paid the third party an amount in an overseas currency and they expected the third party to pay the student’s fees in British pounds sterling. The student shared their login details with the third party. The provider became aware that the fee payments were made using stolen credit cards.

The provider considered what had happened under its disciplinary procedures. It decided that the student was responsible for ensuring that their fees were paid, and that allowing access to their login details had been a major breach of their disciplinary code.  The student was excluded.

The student complained to us. We did not uphold the complaint (we decided it was Not Justified). We decided that the information available to students was clear about their responsibilities to pay their fees and that they should not share direct access to their login with any party who might pay fees on their behalf.  The provider had followed its procedures and the student had not presented any grounds for appeal against its decision.
