International student - CS052407

An international student studying in the UK on a Student Visa received a letter from the provider telling them that their studies had been terminated because their attendance was 0%.

Placement - CS032402

An international student applied for a four-year programme advertised on the provider’s website. The advertised programme included a placement year.

Accommodation - CS012401

An international student signed an accommodation contract for a room in a hall of residence for 12 months, from September to September. The student arrived in the UK in August and went to their accommodation. It was not available yet.

Academic misconduct - CS022308

An international student was invited to a disciplinary panel after a large proportion of their essay was found to be identical in content and structure to a previous student’s submission in the same module.

Coronavirus - CS072108

An international student was on a two-year course that started in January 2020, living in accommodation owned by their provider. In March 2020 the student returned to their home country just before the nationwide lockdown was announced in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Coronavirus - CS032105

An international student was in the final year studying Medicine at the provider. During their final year, medical students who passed their final exams were due to spend time on a series of clinical placements between then and their graduation in July.

An international student was self-isolating in their student accommodation, having returned from their home country. During their self-isolation a friend visited their room.

An international student was on a one-year Masters course with a significant practical element. In March 2020 the provider moved to online learning because of the nationwide lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.

Coronavirus - CS112005

An international student complained to their provider because their course had been moved to online teaching following the closure of campus during the coronavirus lockdown. They asked for a discount or refund of their tuition fees.

Coronavirus - CS112009

A second-year, international student was studying four modules during the year for which they had paid fees of around £13,500. They complained to the provider that it had cancelled half of the expected on-campus learning because of coronavirus lockdown and asked for a refund of tuition fees.

We publish summaries of some of the complaints that we review. We always leave out of the summary any information that might identify the student who made the complaint. In some cases we decide that it is in the public interest to publish a summary of a complaint that includes the name of the provider.
