Harassment and sexual misconduct - CS022507

This case summary describes a reported student’s complaint about their provider’s decision to suspend them as a precautionary measure while it considered whether the student had committed sexual misconduct under its disciplinary procedures. It contains a brief description of the sexual misconduct reported by other students at the provider.

Service issues including consumer rights - CS092405

A student was awarded their degree in February 2021. In December 2023 they complained to their provider about the impact of periods of industrial action and the coronavirus pandemic on their studies.

A first-year undergraduate student was withdrawn from their course because they didn’t pass their resit attempt at a core module. They submitted an academic appeal and explained that their performance had been negatively impacted by issues related to module delivery and a lack of support from their academic personal tutor.

A student complained to their provider that their course wasn’t good value for money. They said the library resources were insufficient, that online services were poor, and that there had been delays in receiving feedback and approval for their dissertation proposal.

A student was registered on a full-time MRes programme. At the end of two years of study, students who met certain academic requirements could be considered for transfer onto a PhD programme.

A student affected by generalised anxiety disorder was part of a cohort affected by industrial action.

Placement - CS032401

A postgraduate student enrolled on a two-year programme. The second year of the programme was an optional industrial placement. Toward the end of their first year the student successfully secured a placement and provided details to the programme’s placement team.

A nursing student complained to their provider about reasonable adjustments for their disability and delays to their graduation and subsequent registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The provider did not uphold the student’s complaint.

Placement - CS032405

A nursing student was studying on a programme delivered in partnership between provider A and provider B. Provider B was responsible for organising placement opportunities and provider A was responsible for considering any complaints.

We publish summaries of some of the complaints that we review. We always leave out of the summary any information that might identify the student who made the complaint. In some cases we decide that it is in the public interest to publish a summary of a complaint that includes the name of the provider.
