We welcome the clarity provided by the government that the OIA will remain the single ADR route for student complaints, including those about freedom of speech.
The OIA had raised concerns during the passing of the Act, that if the OfS were to also be able to review some student complaints, it would be difficult for students to make a fully informed decision about which route would be best for their individual circumstances, and that the complexity and lack of clarity of arrangements was likely to disadvantage some students.
The OIA have been reviewing student complaints, including those concerning freedom of speech, since 2005. We are pleased our concerns have been listened to and there will continue to be a single route for all student complaints.
